Symphonic Metal: New ‘Noise’ From Nightwish

Symphonic metal titans Nightwish have released the first new single to their upcoming album. ‘Noise’ is quite obviously a commentary on modern society and, while I find it a touch pretentious, it’s a pretty good track.

Sorta reminds me how Imaginaerum would sound if it had Floor Jansen on vocals rather than Anette Olzon.

Oh, speaking of pretentious, the title of Nightwish’s ninth album is Hvman. :II: Natvre.. I’m not saying I’m not excited, because any new Nightwish release is worthy to me, but, come on. I can’t just ignore something like that.

01. Music
02. Noise
03. Shoemaker
04. Harvest
05. Pan
06. How’s the Heart?
07. Procession
08. Tribal
09. Endlessness

The album will be released on 10 April. If the rest of it sounds as good as this single, it’ll be a powerhouse!

Power Metal: Immortal Guardian Begin Recording New Album

Immortal Guardian released their widely-acclaimed debut, Age of Revolution, in 2018. They took the US power metal scene by storm with their self-branded “super metal”, which combines elements of prog, power melodeath to create an over-the-top, epic intensity.

The band recently announced that they are beginning the work on their sophomore effort.

While the details remain hidden, it is set for a Fall release.

Brazilian-born vocalist Carlos Zema on the album:
“This is a very different album from our previous releases in that there’s a wide range of emotions involved. We’ve experienced our fair share of loss since the last release and a lot of life lessons were poured into this album, giving it a very real and personal vibe. From a technical vocal aspect, this is the first album I’ve ever recorded where I’ve spanned five octaves as a singer, and I’m excited for the world to hear the message and sound we’ve created together as a group.”

Guitarist/Keyboardist Gabriel Guardian:
“The recording process has been interesting to say the least. Working with a drummer over 2,000 miles away has its obstacles, but Justin and his drum engineer Jesse Zito made the experience way smoother than we imagined. Thanks to technology, video calls and hundreds of back-and-forth messages, we pulled off something that wouldn’t have been possible years ago. We’re incredibly proud of the new material and are looking forward to wrapping up the final mix with Joshua and getting some new music out for all the Guardians to hear!”

Heavy Metal: Hulkoff Announce Sophomore Album

Hulkoff, the heavy metal side project of Pär Hulkoffgarden, has a new album coming in 2020.

Hulkoff has promised that Pansarfolk will be a much more folky album than their first, and it’ll include folk instruments and acoustic guitar parts. Fittingly, the album will also be in both English and Swedish.

Hulkoff on the new album:
“This time we will be digging deep into the Nordic roots. We will be looking at the way music sounded back when Odin was still a living king. . . It’s gonna be pretty god damn massive.”

While no further details have been revealed yet, check out the single ‘Scyth’, which came out last year.

Hulkoff was formed in 2017, with the first album, Kven, coming out that same year. It’s helmed by Pär Hulkoffgarden, who is also the guitarist and vocalist of the industrial metal warmachine Raubtier.

Melodic Metal: Amaranthe Sign Onto Nuclear Blast

Swedish modern metal heavyweights Amaranthe have signed onto Nuclear Blast. The band was formerly with Spinefarm Records, under which they released all five of their previous albums.

Amaranthe’s Olof Mörck:
“It feels amazing to unveil our cooperation with the giants at Nuclear Blast! Ever since we held our shiny new Nuclear Blast CD’s in our teenage hands back in the mid-90’s, they have been at the forefront of bringing the best of the best to the metal scene, and to have them as partners is a dream come true! They are not only massively experienced in the metal scene, but also wonderful people and it has been a pleasure getting to know them. We are already nailing down great plans for the future, and things are looking brighter and stronger for Amaranthe than ever! Keep your eyes open for our next leap forward together in the near future!”

Marcus Hammer, Managing Director of Nuclear Blast:
“We’re more than happy to welcome Amaranthe and Kult Management to the Nuclear Blast family. I’ve already been following the group for a while as they were touring with some of their new label mates. Being both great musicians and humans, that have a clear vision and are supported by an experienced team in the back, it was a no-brainer to try to win this outstanding band for our roster. Now we’re stoked to be the new partner at their side pursuing one goal: adding a successful next chapter to their already shiny career. The future looks bright for both, Amaranthe and Nuclear Blast.”

Amaranthe will release their next album some time in 2020. While no information has been released yet, the band has stated that they’ll begin recording after they finish their next round of tours, which include of a headline tour of Scandinavia followed by a tour with Sabaton and Apocalypta as support.

Victorius Announce New Album

Power metal powerforce Victorius have announced their followup to 2018’s EP Dinosaur Warfare – Legend of the Power Saurus. Where Dinosaur Warfare saw a holy war between aliens and the mighty dinosaurs for Earth, Space Ninjas from Hell will see the Dinoforce pitted against, well, space ninjas that are presumably from Hell.

Now, that all sounds fun and hilarious (which is what I’m all about), but let’s just take a second to look at the album artwork:

Look familiar, no? Like, maybe, I don’t now, a blatant copy of this MASTERPIECE that was announced just a day before?!

Hm. On the one hand, if this was coordinated, it’s fucking hilarious and awesome. But, on the other (and more likely) hand, this is bullshit.

Regardless, I’m excited to hear the first singles of Space Ninjas from Hell, as well as the full album, which will be released on 17 january 2020 via Napalm Records.
