Dawn Of Destiny Sign Onto Ram It Down Records

The female-fronted German power metal outfit Dawn of Destiny have signed onto Ram it Down Records and will release their seventh album under the label in August. As it stands now, no further details have been revealed.

The band was previously signed onto Phonotraxx Publishing (a small label that only covered two other power metal bands: Axxis and Mercury Falling). They released three albums under them, with 2015’s To Hell being their most recent.

If you’ve never heard of the band before, check out ‘To Hell’ below (from their last album, obviously).

Dawn of Destiny – To Hell (Phonotraxx)

This track is a pretty good gauge on what Dawn of Destiny can do. Their brand of power metal is heavy, epic, and melodic, so if you’re browsing this site then you’ll probably dig it!

Chaos Magic Reveal Title Track

Chaos Magic feat Caterina Nix announced their upcoming album, Furyborn, about this time last month. The album is set to release on 14 June under Frontiers Records and will be missing the first album’s chief songwriter: Timo Tolkki (Stratovarius). Instead, Chilean fireball Caterina Nix has taken over these duties, and promises that Furyborn will be a very different experience from Chaos Magic’s self-titled debut.

Their first single, ‘Furyborn’, backs that claim up a thousand times over. Featuring Evergrey’s Tom Englund, it’s heavy, emotional, and a promising first taste of what’s to come.

Chaos Magic – Furyborn feat Tom Englund (Frontiers)

Here’s what Caterina has to say about the band’s new sound:
“I wanted to mix different styles and also seek a sound of my own and I think that is well achieved in Furyborn. It’s a mixture of heavy, melodic, symphonic, and alternative metal, with traces of modern progressive and electronic elements, unique arrangements and a bit of a nostalgic feel associated to certain sounds from the ’90s and early ’00s. It has moments of rage, power, and sick darkness, but also vulnerable, sensual, and sometimes playful points. Furyborn is harder to label compared to the previous Chaos Magic album since on the new album the guitars are a more prominent ingredient that gives tremendous richness to the sound. In summary, Furyborn is a rollercoaster ride that flows through assorted intense styles with uncommon arrangements but with very catchy melodies.”

01. You Will Breathe Again
02. Furyborn (feat Tom Englund)
03. Like Never Before
04. Beware Of Silent Waters (feat Mystheria)
05. Falling Again (feat Nasson)
06. Bravely Beautiful (feat Ailyn Gimenez)
07. Throw Me To The Wolves
08. I’d Give It All
09. Path Of The Brave (feat Ronnie Romero)
10. My Affliction
11. I’m Your Cancer

Seven Kingdoms Return To Recording Studio

The female-fronted power metallers Seven Kingdoms have announced that they’re about to begin recording new material.

Rather than drop another full-length album again, the American outfit is taking a different approach, due to the digitization of music in a rapidly-changing industry. They plan on releasing two EPs and then a full-length album (which will contain a couple songs from both EPs as well as new material) over the next two or three years.

Here’s what the band has to say to justify their unconventional plan:
Why do this? Well, having less songs in a pressing allows us to spend our resources in extra content to be released on these online platforms: Most songs will now get a Music / Lyric Video, we will have more focus on individual songs, and we can release content and give the fans what they want – “MORE” sooner, faster and better than ever before! Streaming, Video Views and Touring is the future of this industry and we need to do what it takes to do all of those more. It may not be quite the way it is now, but 3-5 years from now, that is the way it will be. It’s time to look to the future.

To take full control of this mass-production, Seven Kingdoms have also decided to release all of their content for the foreseeable future independent of record labels. Evidently, their emphasis lies on supporting the music directly from the artist rather than using a middle man.

This move does make sense. The band already has four full albums as well as a solid fanbase, so perhaps their success can ride on their social media reach rather than relying on labels to promote them.

What do you think? Is this the right move for Seven Kingdoms? And, is the day of the record label numbered?

Freedom Call Announce Release Date For M.E.T.A.L.

In time for their 20th anniversary, power metal veterans Freedom Call have announced the release date for their upcoming album: M.E.T.A.L. It’s set for a 23 August release under SPV/Steamhammer.

For the exact same information I just provided you, you can check out the sophisticated and well-thought-out teaser below, in full HD!

Freedom Call are famous for their shamelessly upbeat sound and believe-in-yourself themes and most of their albums have been well-received by fans of the genre. M.E.T.A.L. marks the tenth album of these German cheese masters and, even though there have been no singles and its tracklist remains unannounced, I’m sure we can expect what we usually do from Freedom Call.

Elvenking Post Riddle

This morning, fans of the widely-popular pagan folk metal band Elvenking encountered a picture riddle that was posted on the band’s social media pages. The picture, which you can see below, is a hangman game with runes as its letters.

If you want to give it a shot, you can look at the Elder Futhark key I’ve posted alongside the riddle! (Note that W and V are the same rune.)

Upon transliterating the runes into English, we’re left with this:
_ _ A _ _ _ – – – O F – – – T H _ – – – _ U _ _ S – – – _ I V I _ A T I O _”

Along with the picture, here’s what Elvenking had to say:
Dear Elvenlegions, as you may already have noticed… a new chapter is about to begin. We want to share some first magickal details with you about what’s to come and invite you to have a closer look to the profile pictures we are posting. We have hidden – and in the next days we will keep on hiding – something that may not be recognized at first sight. And that will be the key to unveil the secret of this riddle. That is when you’ll be able to read the lines that no one reads, and the runes will speak a clear language. Keep on following us, and everything shall be revealed…

What could this mean? Well, it’s likely the title to their upcoming album, which was announced to release near September a while ago. Additionally, Elvenking have confirmed that the recording for this album has all been finished, and they’ve also changed their profile pictures, which might include further clues:

As far as that riddle goes, my guess is that the new album title will be “Shapes of the Runes Divination“. It doesn’t really roll off the tongue and I’m not certain about “Shapes”, but that’s my guess nonetheless.

With the band acting as cryptically as ever, maybe I’m completely wrong and we’ll be blindsided with something different. What do you think?

Tarja Announces New Album

Ex-Nightwish frontwoman Tarja Turunen has announced that her eighth solo album (seventh, if you exclude the atrocious Christmas album of 2017), In the Raw, will be released on 30 August under earMUSIC.

Last week, In the Raw‘s first single, ‘Dead Promises’, was released to tease the new album. Containing Tarja’s usual epic operatic choirs and a big, beefy rhythm guitar, it makes for a straightforward, catchy metal tune. The album version of ‘Dead Promises’ will feature Björn “Speed” Strid (Soilwork) on vocals. Why Tarja decided to make two versions of the song, I will never know. Anyway, give it a listen below.

Tarja – Dead Promises (earMUSIC)

The idea behind In the Raw is to display more raw, naked emotion than has ever before been heard in Tarja’s music. Judging by this single alone, that’s a hefty fucking statement, but I suppose we’ll see just how true it is come August.

01. Dead Promises feat Björn “Speed” Strid
02. Goodbye Stranger” feat Cristina Scabbia
03. Tears in Rain
04. Railroads
05. You And I
06. The Golden Chamber
I. Awaken
II. Loputon yö
III. Alchemy
07. Spirits of the Sea
08. Silent Masquerade feat Tommy Karevik
09. Serene
10. Shadow Play

And, to the excitement of fans everywhere, The Hu have announced that their upcoming album, The Gereg, will be available this summer, as well as dates for a European tour and a confirmation that a US/CAN tour will be coming in the fall.
