Symphonic Metal: New ‘Noise’ From Nightwish

Symphonic metal titans Nightwish have released the first new single to their upcoming album. ‘Noise’ is quite obviously a commentary on modern society and, while I find it a touch pretentious, it’s a pretty good track.

Sorta reminds me how Imaginaerum would sound if it had Floor Jansen on vocals rather than Anette Olzon.

Oh, speaking of pretentious, the title of Nightwish’s ninth album is Hvman. :II: Natvre.. I’m not saying I’m not excited, because any new Nightwish release is worthy to me, but, come on. I can’t just ignore something like that.

01. Music
02. Noise
03. Shoemaker
04. Harvest
05. Pan
06. How’s the Heart?
07. Procession
08. Tribal
09. Endlessness

The album will be released on 10 April. If the rest of it sounds as good as this single, it’ll be a powerhouse!

The Dark Element Release New Single

Melodic metal outfit The Dark Element was formed by Anette Olzon (former frontwoman of Nightwish) and guitarist Jani Liimatainen (ex-Sonata Arctica). Their sound is built on a combination of electronic sounds, symphonic orchestrations, heavy guitars, and catchy melodies. The band released their self-titled debut in 2017, and announced their sophomore record, Songs the Night Sings, a couple weeks ago.

The first single, ‘Songs the Night Sings’, has been released. It’s a promising taste of what’s to come, and it appears that The Dark Element have stripped off some of the excess and pretension that took hold of their debut.

Olzon’s fantastic vocals are on point, the beat is steady and catchy, and the orchestrations are bright. Needless to say, I’m optimistic for Songs the Night Sings‘ arrival on 8 November!

Delain Releases New Live Video

Symphonic veterans Delain have released a new live music video for their second album hit, ‘Nothing Left’.

The video shows footage from their latest live album + BluRay, Hunter’s Moon, and features Nightwish’s Marco Hietala.

Delain on the new video:
“2019 marks the ten years since we first released ‘Nothing Left’ on
April Rain. Nowadays it’s a rare treat to see the track at one of our live shows, but it hasn’t lost any of its power in the decade that has passed. Performing ‘Nothing Left’ together with Marco Hietala wasone of the highlights of the night in Tivoli, and, in fact, the entire show felt like a highlight. It was one of my favourite shows of our career so far.”

Delain – Nothing Left feat. Marco Hietala (Napalm)

It’s the third and final part of the concept trilogy that began with the EP Lunar Prelude and LP Moonbathers. The album was recorded on Delain’s Danse Macabre Tour 2017 and features numerous guest musicians, including extreme metal drummer/vocalist George Oosthoek and the previously mentioned Marco Hietala.

Marco Hietala on the Danse Macabre Tour:
“I was really pleased to do the tour, because it gave me a chance to challenge myself in different surroundings and band dynamics. In the end it comes down to the same old but great thing. I love doing good shows with good people for good audiences. All for one and one for all!”

Hunter’s Moon has met widespread success, reaching #65 on the Billboard Top 200 and #24 on both the Swiss and German Album Charts.
